Our Vision: To advance the overall level of theatre arts in Colorado.
Our Mission: To provide student and professional theatre artists with training rooted in graduate-level curriculum, taught by theatre professionals; and to integrate this training into the development of new intermedia performance work that engages audiences in the social and human issues of our time.

Note From Artistic Director

This April will open with an extraordinary short play Danny and the Deep Blue Sea by world-renowned John Patrick Shanley (winner of the Pulitzer Prize, Tony Awards, and Academy Awards). Hallie Schwartz and Trevor Lyons will reprise their roles as Roberta and Danny. The training both Hallie and Trevor received as part of the Visionbox Ensemble helped them be admitted to top training programs in New York City where they are both now working actors. We are excited to welcome them home as they open this new project.

Following soon after will feature two one-acts by Tennessee Williams. Both of these short plays are part of Williams’ early work, which later developed into major full-length plays like Streetcar Named Desire and The Glass Menagerie. And finally, will feature two short original works, which we will announce soon under the working title Murmurations. The focus of our producing in 2022-2023 will be the on-going development of new plays.

Lastly, this age of technology has given us extraordinary gifts, but it has also created new challenges. The isolation we experience living on our computer screens and cellphones, compounded by the recent health crisis, the barrage of information that comes at us on a daily basis through the internet has created a new kind of disconnection and alienation, especially in our young people. Live theatre is now more important than ever; not only as a vehicle for social change, but also as a way to connect us to ourselves and to each other.

Audition Intensive/Industry Showcase
August 15th - August 26th M-F 6-9pm
Champa Studio - 1245 Champa St. Denver CO
Tuition: $500

This acting intensive will focus on audition technique and audition material. Each actor will work on 2 contemporary, 2 classical monologues, and a song. The focus of the class will be on how to make an audition acting, as opposed to result or performance. At the end of the 2 week sequence, actors will have the
opportunity to show their work to directors, casting directors, and agents from the Denver metro area, including industry professionals from DCPA, Curious Theatre, Arvada Center, Aurora Fox, and Vintage Theatre.

Any interested actors should write to info@visionbox.org for more information and to set up an audition/interview. Limit 16 actors per class. Some financial aid/work study available upon request.

We offer 5 week scene study classes for actors of all ages, levels and backgrounds that culminate in a performance. While the focus of the class is on acting technique, each sequence can also be taken as a playwright or director with assignments and work tailored to these disciplines. We also offer ongoing audition classes on Saturday mornings and a Directors Lab on Saturday afternoons.

As an extension of the training program, Visionbox Studio Theatre has produced workshops of new performance work by nationally and internationally acclaimed writers, directors, designers and actors. These public performances of new work featuring multi-media design have included The Othello Project by Visionbox, Commedia, a new play by British Actor Daniel Gerroll, The Wild Hunt by Bill Pullman, A Child’s Christmas in Wales by Dylan Thomas with Broadway Actor Bill Youmans and most recently a world premiere of Seeking Charlie Russell written and performed by Bill Pullman. Visionbox is a Tier III project of the Scientific and Cultural Facilities District (SCFD) and part of the McNichols Civic Center Building Cultural Partnership Program.
