Theatre is the art form of the present

it exists only in the present

and then it’s gone

Visionbox Studio Theatre PLAYCLUB!

(a creative discussion for non-actors - hosted on Zoom)

Our next PlayClub is Death of a Salesman by Arthur Miller

Date: Thursday, March 25th at 7:00 PM MT

Cost: $25 per person (or purchase 5 for $100) Student ticket $10

Death of a Salesman by Arthur Miller premiered on Broadway in February of 1949 running for 742 performances. It won the Pulitzer Prize for Drama and the Tony Award for best play. It is still considered one of the greatest American plays of all time by critics, artists and audiences. Miller asks important questions about a man's identity in the context of society's definition of "success". The story and characters continue to reveal deep truths about our belief in "The American Dream" and our own personal search for meaning in our lives.

PLAYCLUB is Visionbox’s version of book club.  We distribute the script in advance and then convene by zoom to study and discuss it.  Founding Artistic Director Jennifer McCray Rincon opens with remarks about both the play and the playwright.  We then invite group discussion, after which Visionbox actors perform a scene from the play.  We discuss that scene, after which Ms. Rincon re-directs the scene to demonstrate an alternative approach to the same text.  We have been told over and over that watching actors rework scenes like this is the most intriguing part of our work.  It is also an excellent way to gain appreciation for the literature and language of theatre.

What the public is saying

"As a non-actor myself, I have always been intrigued as to the process of acting/actors. The ability to change and adapt to a variety of roles and become a believable representation of someone else entirely. This “PlayClub” was a wonderful eye-opener for me! I have a new passion and fascination for the true art of the Theatre, the work that is involved, and the passions of actors, producers, and all story-tellers; in the production of these very necessary stories for out times. I would recommend this evening to anybody who wants a glimpse of the inside processes!! Thank you, Jennifer, and the Visionbox crew for a most enjoyable evening! See you next time!"
