2025 SCENE STUDY CLASSES
VISIONBOX CERTIFICATE PROGRAM
Each year since our founding, we offer scene study classes in five-week sequences that culminate in at least one performance. These acting classes are taught by Jennifer McCray Rincón and are based in graduate-level study. The fall sequences specifically emulate first and second-year MFA training, beginning with Chekhov, Ibsen, and Strindberg, classical realism, and then moving into Shakespeare. We call this our certificate program.

REALISM
Class Begins: October 13th
Open Rehearsal: November 13th

Anton Chekhov & Tennessee Williams Scene Study
ALL CLASSES HELD AT: 7108 E Lowry Blvd, Denver, CO 80230
Anton Chekhov (1860-1904) created a new style of theatre that we have come to call “Realism”. His director, Stanislavski and the Moscow Art Theatre has continued to be a foundation for all contemporary acting work in theatre and film. For the first time in theatre history, Chekhov wrote about ordinary people living ordinary lives in a time of extraordinary change. One of the great American directors of Chekhov, Nikos Psacharopoulos, often said “Chekhov wrote about how hard it is to live, and what we do to go on living.” The Actor’s 5 Questions, the foundation for all actor training at Visionbox Studio, is deeply tied to the study of Anton Chekhov’s life and work.
Tennessee Williams (1911-1983) has long been referred to as the “American Chekhov.” Why? He also wrote about times of struggle and change in American life by creating characters he referred to as “the fugitive kind;” human beings that were too fragile and too beautiful to survive in the world he described. Tennessee Williams has always been considered one of the greatest American playwrights and we have always referred to his work as “Poetic Realism.” His characters are complex and broken, but there is always a sense of beauty that brings hope to the world in his plays.
Actors in this class sequence will work on one Chekhov and one Williams scene which will be performed in an “Open Rehearsal” performance in front of family and friends on November 13th.
All new actors must submit a headshot and resume to info@visionbox.org and will audition with Artistic Director Jennifer McCray Rincón and the Visionbox team.
Classes are Monday-Wednesday 6:30-9:30pm

Visionbox will accept up to 16 actors for each class.
We also accept directors and playwrights into our classes. Directors and writers should also schedule an interview with Ms. Rincon and our staff for more information on the class they are interested in.
